The Security Council heard calls for the exercise of maximum restraint and de-escalation to break the cycle of retaliation and prevent a full-blown war in the Middle East during another emergency meeting on the escalating crisis in the region, following Israel’s 25 October air strikes against Iran, which earlier in the month had launched missile strikes against Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces conducted three waves of strikes into Iran, targeting around 20 locations around Tehran and
western Iran, including vital air defense assets and facilities tied to the Iranian drone and missile programs. The strikes were in response to the large-scale ballistic missile attack that Iran launched against Israel on October 1.

Iran launched a massive barrage at Israel, estimated at more than 300 drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. This is reportedly the largest drone/missile attack ever.
